Missionaries
Southwest Hills supports several full-time missionaries around the world as they share the good news of the gospel. Below is a paragraph description for each Focus Area, Missionaries and Ministries we support.
SWHBC Mission Organizations & Missionary Descriptions:
Amazing Truth Ministries seeks to glorify God with a three-fold goal. Using primarily illusion, we seek to evangelize the lost, exhort the believer to holy living, and equip saints for a more effective ministry. Our deep desire is to help people of all ages come to know Jesus Christ and see them transformed through obedience as they apply God's word to their own lives in practical ways. It is this desire that led Mike into this unique ministry of using illusion to illustrate the principles of God's word. The Puckett family utilize their skills as illusionists, performing in evangelistic festivals, churches, Upward events, orphanages, and schools internationally, to teach, and to train while sharing the "AMAZING TRUTH" of God's word in fun and memorable ways. Honduras:
Honduras is one of the three poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. It is a country of great need, both spiritual and physical. We partner with local churches, local pastors and missionaries, and local schools to help them evangelize their region. Some of the projects that we have worked on are: health fairs, children's programs in churches, Jesus film project, building homes for the homeless, building projects with the local church, children's programs in local schools, and after-school care programs for children at risk with Urban Promise. We have seen many come to know Christ and grow closer to Him.
Clark & Yvonne Malone:
Clark and Yvonne are TEAM missionaries serving in the north of Portugal in church development and church planting. They will be celebrating 23 years in Portugal this next month. They continue as part of the leadership of the church, Centro Evangélico O Caminho, in Ermesinde, a church they started together with Samuel Paulo Santos and his wife Jacinta. Yvonne is phasing out of teaching to spend more time in counseling and the recovery ministry, while Clark continues in personal evangelism as well as being a support person for Samuel Paulo. He is also involved with counseling and the recovery program. Both are also spending increasing time in Vizela, a city 40km north of us where we are starting a new church. They both do counseling and heavy evangelism. One project that got off the ground is a nine-month seminar series dealing with life issues people struggle with during this time of extreme crisis here in Portugal: depression, domestic violence, dealing with crises, stress, alcoholism and mental illness. We are hoping that this will be a bridge to bring the Good News to the community.
Romania:
In 2001, after the fall of communism, we planted a church in a small village in southwestern Romania called Stignitza. It was the village where one of our members (Ioana Waite) grew up. Today we fully support a pastor named Titu, his wife, and three children in their part-time ministry. On a regular Sunday some 30-40 adults and children attend. We also support a missionary who comes once a week to the village and teaches the children to read using the Bible as their text book. We are currently in discussion with missionaries Rica and Kathy Gonciulea from the largest nearby city of Turnu Severin, to possibly partner with their church in the work at Stignitza. This would give us better opportunity to evaluate the week by week ministry in the village and how we might improve our effectiveness there.
Tom & Ginna Sloan:
Tom and Ginna Sloan are presently leading two teams to start two new churches in the western part of Tokyo, Japan. The teams include missionaries (Chuck and Diana Jordan) and Japanese believers. One church start, Hope Bible Church (which includes the Jordans), has developed to the stage where the missionaries are actively taking steps to turn this ministry over to new leadership. The second church start is just beginning. Their primary focus in both works is to develop churches with a compelling witness where Japanese are introduced to Jesus and then led to be disciple-making disciples.
Allan & Rosy Lee & family (Mexican Medical Ministries):
Allan is a missionary and “People Group Advocate” for the Copala Triquis (TREE-keys) of Mexico, focusing on the development of Christian resources in their native language and the distribution of such materials among the Triquis scattered throughout Mexico and the US. He is in communication with a growing network of key Triqui Christians and others who are sharing God’s love with them. He also serves the emerging missions movement in Mexico. Rosy holds down the home front with their three children, Marcos, Allan, and Ana.
Ed & Kim Gossien of AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed):
Ed and Kim Gossien serve as Awana Missionaries to Western Oregon and as Lead Missionaries to the Northwest Region. Their mission is "to get as much of God's word, as deep as we can, into as many kids as we can." Moving forward in this vision involves starting new Awana ministries, and encouraging existing Awana ministries. Ed and Kim minister primarily to the adults who work with young people in local churches, especially the Awana Commanders.
Move To Assurance (MTA) is a ministry of evangelism and training. Currently working in the U.S. and three other countries (Russia, Indonesia and India) MTA is directly involved in one-to-one evangelism anywhere groups of people gather. MTA creates gospel tracts in multiple languages, operates a network of web sites, produces videos, provides books and Bibles, and provides free evangelism, discipleship and ministry training. In addition to the Pacific Northwest and New England, MTA is working with churches in three cities in Russia, a church plant in Indonesia, and an evangelism ministry in India. All of the resources produced by MTA are provided at no charge.
Lee Brase:
As the Navigator's international prayer leader, Lee Brase’s main responsibility is to nurture a God-focus movement. He primarily mentors and coaches men on five continents who now have teams to help them bring a God-focus in all that the Navigators do in their sphere of influence. The Spirit of God is motivating people to seek God, so our task is to come along side to help them live out what God is putting in their hearts.
CBC General Fund & Church Planting Fund:
The CBC (Columbia Baptist Conference) is a denominational association of 80 churches in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska. It is one of 13 districts of the Baptist General Conference. The general fund helps support churches growth in helping in planting new churches, funding resources for growth, and assistance for the Lake Retreat Camp and Camp Bighorn, which are ministries facilities and resources to the conference churches. The church planting fund goes directly towards new church plants represented by the conference.
BGC General Fund:
The BGC (Baptist General Conference) is a denominational association of 1166 churches across the globe. The general fund helps support this movement to strengthen and start more churches.

Metro Police Chaplaincy (now called Public Safety Chaplaincy):
The Metro Police Chaplaincy (now called Public Safety Chaplaincy), provides chaplain services to public safety agencies in the greater Northwest Oregon area.
Mission Connexion Northwest:
Mission Connexion Northwest is a two day event each year sponsored by churches from the region, challenging the Church to fulfill the Great Commission. Its three-fold purpose is to inform, celebrate, and challenge people of all ages to get involved in missions by sending, praying, giving and going. During the two day event dozens of mission agencies host exhibits providing information about work being done, and needing to be done. And addition workshops are offered related to missions.

A short time later the Johnson's began leading short term teams and quickly got excited to see how God was changing lives. Read more.
